What To Do With Scarves

scarvesThese beautiful colorful pieces of fabric are hard to part with even though you rarely use them. You may be one of the few I see around that look completely coordinated with one of these draped perfectly around your shoulders or tied around your neck but many of us don’t think to wear them that often.

Religious reasons; I had an opportunity years ago to travel to Kuala Lumpur and the women there wore beautiful scarves to cover their heads for their religion.

Practical reasons; like a wool scarf in the winter for warmth.

Fashion reason; the biggest reason I see around where I live. If you look on youtube you can find clips of women showing you all sorts of creative ways to wear them and tie them.

But what do you do when years have gone by and you just don’t grab for that scarf anymore? One thing is to get them out and make an effort to wear them but again, if a year goes by and you don’t, consider some of the following.

Other uses for scarves;

Beach Dress, Skirt, Quilts, Table Decoration, Crafts, Turn Into A Belt, Make It A Headpiece,

If those don’t work for you then consider selling it or giving it away.

Step One; Take out all of your scarves, the folded and the hanging.

Step Two; If you haven’t worn in 2 years, then sell or give away. For those of you who are getting braver, try 1 year.

Scarves are in most clothing stores. Target and Walmart have lots. So if you happen get rid of all of your scarves and you suddenly need one then relax because you know there are many more out there at good prices.

They are pretty, aren’t they?

Discovering Minimalism

Living with less.

This may or may not be for you. I’m not here to twist your arm but to propose an alternative to living with lots of stuff.

Alternative – Live with less

Charity – Giving is good

Benefits – Peace of mind and freedom

The Stuff Above The Washing Machine

Above the washing machineMost households have washing detergent, softener and little softener towelettes above the washing machine. But, that’s not all we keep up there.

There are lots of half filled bottles, including bottles you bought back the early eighties. It’s amazing the stuff hasn’t completely dried up.

Can you spot the super oil for the sewing machine that I haven’t used in years? I hate throwing it away because it’s oil and probably still works but most of us own a can of WD40.

Some shoe shine stuff and boot lotion and bug repellant that I don’t use.

What to do?

Apart from the air can, I haven’t used any of these in years.

Discovering minimalism.

Having less stuff, (especially stuff not being used) is easier on the brain. There are many benefits.

Less to insure and less to worry about, means freedom.

Living with less not only gives us more confidence it saves money.

Less to clean and less to wash means more time to play.

It’s not complicated.

Consider this –  it might be in your best interest to have less.

That includes half used bottles that are 10 years old.

How To Organize. Clutter = Negativity

Here is a recap of an old TV clip on organizing couples.

1. The disorganized young couple.

Problem. They had little space, living out of boxes, no actual closet and came together with lots of stuff. Including too many college t-shirts that needed to go.

Solution. They bought a closet they could put together so stuff they used would have a designated place. They purchased nice hangers and before hanging their clothes they did a fashion show for each other. Decisions were made on what they would keep and what they would get rid of, including 90% of those college t shirts.

2. The older couple.

Problem. They came together later in life and had to merge two households. He liked his MR COFFEE and she liked her FRENCH COFFEE PRESS.

Solution. They bought a coffee maker that did both. They had two of everything so consolidation was their answer.

3. One is messy and the other is neat couple.

Problem. He drove her crazy and needed his own space.

Solution. The man cave. This gives him an area for his own stuff that he won’t get rid of. She needs to stay out of this area.

Decluttering is a must if you want to be organized!
